Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo Hosts Japanese Traditional Performing Art Exhibition

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo will host a special exhibition of the Japanese traditional performing art called ‘Noh’ – one of the world’s oldest performing arts – from June 1 to 27 with The National Noh Theatre. The ‘Noh’, has been performed for over 600 years since the Muromachi Period of Japan, have spanned national borders and cultures to influence performing arts of various genres globally, and was registered as an intangible cultural heritage by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 2008 in recognition of its strong cultural importance globally, a statement said. During the exhibition, various art items related to ‘Noh’ -- including traditional carved wooden masks, intricately woven costumes and other artistic props will be displayed in the hotel’s lobby. ‘Noh’ performances will also be held for approximately 20 minutes on June 7 and June 21 in the lobby. In addition, a live ‘Noh’ performance entitled ‘Aoi No Ue’ based from the classic Japanese novel called the Tale of Genji, will be performed by Yoshimasa Kanze on June 14. This ‘Noh’ performance expresses the sorrow of a mistress over her jealousy towards Aoi No Ue, the wife of Hikaru Genji. The hotel, one of Japan’s most prestigious in Shinjuku is providing its guests from over 100 different countries, with the opportunity to enjoy ‘Noh’ performing arts as part of its diverse range of Cultural Experience Programs. --BERNAMA
