Ashgabat and Beijing sign package of intergovernmental agreements

The signing of a package of intergovernmental documents was held in Turkmenistan's capital of Ashgabat on Tuesday in the presence of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chinese President Xi Jinping who is in Turkmenistan with a government visit (September 3-4), a source close to the talks reported.
The ceremony was held after the summit talks and in an expanded format.
China ranks first in the total foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan, the work on expanding the range of export and import goods is being carried out.
China has become a long-term partner of Turkmenistan in the oil and gas sector and is the largest creditor in the fuel and energy complex of the country. In 2009 a trans-national gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China, passing through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, was commissioned.
In accordance with the new agreements, the amount of fuel annually supplied to China in the future will be increased to 65 billion cubic meters by means of connecting additional communications. In 2011, the Turkmen gas was directed to the pipeline system of Guangdong Province - one of the most populous and rapidly developing regions of China, located on the Pacific coast.
China is also well represented in the Turkmen market in the sphere of transport and telecommunications.
