Do Not Succumb To Foreign Pressure

Depok, West Java, Aug 13 (Antara) - The next government of Indonesia should not yield to a foreign country`s pressure, said professor in international law at the University of Indonesia`s Faculty of Law, Hikmahanto Juwana. "President-elect Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, must be careful about Japan`s interest, related to mineral purification," Hikmahanto said in a written statement made available to Antara on Wednesday. He noted that Jokowi has to be alert toward the agenda of the visit to Indonesia by Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida. Hikmahanto explained that one of the issues reported to have been discussed during Kishida`s meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa and Jokowi was about the policy of mineral purification in Indonesia as the implementation of Law No. 4/2009 on mineral and coal mining. Mineral purification policy being implemented by the government at present has resulted in prohibition on the export of mineral raw materials. Japanese purification industries find it difficult to obtain supply of mineral raw materials because of the policy.
