Japan Says It Shares View on Importance of Trade with U.S.

Tokyo, Jan. 12 (Jiji Press)--Japan and the United States both recognize the importance of active trade and investment between the two countries, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Thursday. "We share the view with the United States that active trade and investment is a source of energy for Japan-U.S. economic relations," Suga told a press conference in Tokyo. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is expected to promote such a policy, Suga said. The remarks by the Japanese government's top spokesman came after Trump on Wednesday complained about his country's trade deficit with Japan at his first press conference since his election in November. Pointing to Japanese companies investing heavily in the United States and creating jobs there, Suga said that they are "good corporate citizens for the United States." END
