Survey: People are happy with Wen's visit to Thailand

BANGKOK, November 20 (TNA) - Most Thai people feel welcome for the official visit to Thailand by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jia Bao, scheduled for November 20-21, as they believe the visit will turn bilateral relations between China and Thailand into a better direction. According to a latest poll, conducted by Bangkok-based Assumption University, 73.5 per cent of respondents welcomed Wen's visit to Bangkok and 80.6 per cent of them said they were greatly proud that Thailand is a destination in which two world leaders, US President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen, visit. The ABAC Poll also found that most respondents, or 86.4 per cent, wanted to see Thailand and China cooperate on trade and investment, followed by anti-narcotics, transnational crime, education and cultural exchanges. Upon his arrival in Bangkok Tuesday evening, Wen will attend a meeting of the Thai-Sino Chamber of Commerce. Wen is scheduled to preside over the opening ceremony of the Chinese Cultural Center on Wednesday morning, followed by a plenary meeting with the Thai administration at Bangkok's Government House. On Wednesday evening, the Chinese prime minister will pay a courtesy call on the Thai Privy Council President and the Stateman, General Prem Tinsulanonda, who is also a former Thai prime minister, and will then be granted an audience with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital, prior to his departure from Thailand.
