Japan Foreign Minister Voices Support for Iran N-Deal

Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono on Monday expressed Tokyo's support for the July 2015 nuclear deal signed between Iran and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, including the United States, plus Germany. In telephone talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, Kono also said that Japan will continue to assist the implementation of the nuclear deal. Kono made the remarks after U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled his administration's plan to effectively review the historic agreement. Zarif told Kono that Iran highly evaluates Japan's position on the issue, adding that his country has complied with the nuclear deal and is ready to continue to do so. END
