Political Leaders Cast Votes In Legislative Elections

Jakarta, April 9 (Antara) - Political leaders from 12 parties participating in the Indonesian general elections cast their votes at polling stations in Jakarta and surrounding areas during the legislative elections held across the country on Wednesday. According to Antara`s observation, Chairman of National Democrat (Nasdem) party Surya Paloh cast his vote in a polling station near his home at Komplek Aneka Tambang, South Jakarta. The presidential candidate from Nasdem party was accompanied by his wife Rosita Barack. "I wish for an honest and transparent elections. I am optimistic that Nasdem party will get high number of votes," Surya said. Meanwhile presidential candidate from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Joko Widodo cast his vote in a polling station near his home at Menteng sub district, Central Jakarta. The Governor of Jakarta came with his wife Iriana to the polling station at around 08.17 a.m. wearing white blouse, jeans and sneakers. "My wish is to see all Indonesians use their rights to vote," Jokowi said briefly. Meanwhile one of the presidential candidates from Democratic Party, Gen (ret) Pramono Edhie, was seen casting his vote at a polling station in Nanggrak village, West Java province. "Today is my first time casting a vote in the election. I hope my action today will contribute positively to Indonesia," said the former Army Chief and brother to First Lady Ani Yudhoyono. Pramono was accompanied by his wife Kiki Gayatri and son Dewanto Edhie Wibowo. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono were also scheduled to cast their votes at the same polling station with Pramono. Chairman of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri was scheduled to cast her vote in a poling station in Kebagusan area, South Jakarta. Megawati would cast her vote alongside her family members namely her sons and daughter including Puan Maharani. Other political party leaders who cast their vote included President of Justice and Prosperous party (PKS) Anis Matta. Anis was scheduled to cast vote in a polling station in Utan Kayu Utara sub district, East Jakarta. Meanwhile Chairman of Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), Let Gen (ret) Prabowo, cast his vote in a polling station near his home in Bojong Koneng village, West Java province while Chairman of The Indonesian Justice and Unity Party, Let Gen (ret) Sutiyoso, cast his vote in a polling station in Bekasi, West Java province. Indonesia is holding two elections this year, namely the parliamentary election on April 9 and the presidential election on July 9. The scheduled parliamentary election is set to choose 560 members of the House of Representatives (DPR), 132 members of Regional Representatives Council (DPD), 2,137 members of provincial legislative assembly and 20,257 members of the district/city`s legislative assembly. About 185.8 million Indonesians are eligible to cast their vote in the 2014 election with 2.2 million among them living abroad. Those who live abroad cast their votes from March 30 to April 6 for the parliamentary elections. Their votes will be included in the electoral area of DKI Jakarta II, consisting of Central Jakarta and South Jakarta.
