US Playing Game To Control World's Energy Resources: Analyst

Islamabad, July 30, IRNA – Senior Pakistani political and defense analyst on Sunday said that the US is playing a game to control energy resources of the entire world. Talking to IRNA, (retd) Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum said that US is behind the failure of UN arms-trade treaty summit. Delegations from world over failed Friday to agree on a landmark UN arms-trade treaty to regulate the over $60b industry, opting for further talks and a possible UN General Assembly vote by the end of the year. 'The conference's inability to conclude its work on this much-awaited ATT, despite years of effort of member-states and civil society from many countries, is a setback,' said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Abdul Qayyum expressing his views said that for last ten years US has created turmoil in Afghanistan. He added that Western countries like France and Britain had made different colonies in the world and now the US has introduced new term of Neocolonialism for commercial interests. 'US and its allies want to occupy Middle East and Central Asia that is why they have been threatening Pakistan and Iran,' opined the analyst. The intellectual said that the US is playing a game to control the energy resources in entire world. 'They are pursuing the policies of double standards,' he said. Abdul Qayyum was of the view that United Nations is also towing the American policies and has become a biased organization. 'UN gets US funding so you cannot expect justice from the UN,' he added. 'The UN Security Council's veto power is used to kill justice,' he maintained. In response to a question he said, obviously presence of foreign troops in the Middle East and Afghanistan is the root cause of instability in Muslim regions. 'They are violating human rights in every part of the world,' he said. He viewed that they (West) are not with the dictators or people, they want to capture the resources of Middle East. 'That is why Persian Gulf is so much important for them,' said the analyst. Abdul Qayyum said that there are two types of arms in the world, commercial and nuclear. 'US is the largest seller of weapons and wants to maintain its monopoly in arms sector,' said the analyst. The intellectual added that it would be correct to say that US is behind the failure of UN arms-trade treaty summit. He said that other countries of the world should be allowed to sell conventional weapons. He noted that the US exports drones to the Zionist regime, but is against its selling the same technology to Pakistan. 'They sell weapons to those countries where they have offensive deployments against Muslims,' Abdul Qayyum viewed. Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum is a retired 3-star general of Pakistan Army. He appears frequently in television talk shows and is a well-known critic of American foreign policies pertaining to Pakistan./end
