Moscow Declares Support For Tehran-G5+1 Talks

Moscow, Oct 27, IRNA - Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich declared here on Friday that Russia's position in support of talks between Iran and G5+1 has not changed. He made the remarks in an interview with IRNA. Lukashevich underlined that his country welcomes regular contact between Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Sa'eid Jalili and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton. 'Jalili and Ashton’s direct talks keep the process of negotiations between Iran and the G5+1 (Russia, China, France, the US, and the UK plus Germany) dynamic; Russia is against a long hiatus in talks between Iran and the G5+1.' The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Moscow believes continuation of talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is necessary and will work towards the resolution of Iran's nuclear issue. Rejecting the US media reports about secret negotiations between Iranian and American officials on nuclear issue, he said that he believes such talks must unnecessarily take place, better sooner than later. 'Of course, the US presidential election has had some limited impacts on Iran and the G5+1 talks.' Lukashevich concluded that constructive results of previous G5+1 and Iran talks should be used in the future negotiations./end
