Majlis Speaker: Iran Opposes All Types Of Extremism In Region

Tehran, Nov 13, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that Iran opposes any sort of extremism in the region.
Larijani made the remarks while commenting on developments in the region, especially in Syria, during a meeting on Monday with Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Idris Barzani.
Larijani said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is against any kind of extremism, believing that such moves will impede development of the region."
He went on to say that friendly relations between Iran and Iraq are cause of stability and security in the region. "Political and economic capacities of Iran and Iraq should serve lasting security and peace in the region."
Terming relations between the Iranian and Iraqi nations as "durable and friendly," Larijani said campaign against Iraqi Baathist regime was a turning point in the Tehran-Baghdad cooperation and that the Iranian people have always sided with the Iraqi nation under hard conditions.
He also underlined the need to use all capacities and opportunities for expansion of political, economic and technical cooperation between Iran and Iraq. He said, "Majlis supports any measures aiming to expand ties with the Kurdistan Regional Government."
Barzani, for his part, thanked Iranian officials and nation for supporting Kurdish people in their campaign against Saddam's dictatorial regime.
He said Iraqi Kurdish people would never forget the financial and spiritual support of the Iranian government and nation during their campaign and Iraqi Kurdistan officials favor expansion of mutual relations in various political, economic and cultural spheres.
He also voiced concern about crisis in Syria and presence of extremist groups in the region, saying the Iraqi nation's will is based on restoration of peace, progress and development to the region./end
