Chiang Mai becomes top destination for Thai Christmas&New Year revellers:Poll

BANGKOK, December 22 (TNA) - A latest survey conducted by Assumption University’s Happiness Centre has shown that most Thai people plan to celebrate their Christmas and New Year away from home, with the northern resort Chiang Mai province being their top destination. The survey, conducted among 2,231 people aged 18 or older in 17 provinces from December 10-21, found that 94.4 per cent of the respondents know Christmas and plan to celebrate the Christian festival. The survey also found that 44 per cent of the respondents said they felt Christmas is a festive season. 40.3 per cent viewed the festival as a happy time, 27.2 per cent saw it as a family gathering occasion. 26.5 per cent said they feel nothing special about Christmas. According to the survey, most respondents, 45.3 per cent, acknowledged “Christmas tree” was the word that comes to their mind when think about Christmas, followed by “Santa” at 41.9 per cent, and “gifts” at 40.6 per cent.
