Bangkok prepares for end of year countdown

BANGKOK, December 31 (TNA) - Thai authorities are preparing a major venue for end of the year countdown at Rajchaprasong Intersection in the heart of Bangkok. Fences were put up on both sides of footpaths of the Rajdamri road, near the intersection, to surround a perimetre of where the countdown event would take place. A stage in the centre of the venue was also adorned with a gigantic LED screen, and numerous lighting systems, in preparation for performances to entertain the crowds Monday night. Road around the intersection will be closed to all car at 5 p.m. local time. Organisers announced the show would start at 7.45 p.m., and last until 1.30 a.m. Tuesday. Visitors are cautioned not to bring beverages in glass bottle, weapons, items that could spark fires and pets into the venue. The countdown event would include dancing, a spectacular firework display, New Year songs singing, as well as performances by many artists. The BTS Skytrain System has extended its services for two more hours until 2 a.m. Tuesday to take care of New Year revelers. (TNA)
