New Year celebrants return to work after long holidays
BANGKOK, January 2 (TNA) - New Year revellers have been returning to work, after celebrating long seasoning holidays during the New Year festivity with their families and friends in their hometowns or other destinations across Thailand, causing bus terminals to be heavily crowded.
In Chiang Rai province in the Thai North, for instance, people have thronged the second provincial bus terminal since early Wednesday morning, as locals and tourists were catching their buses to return to Bangkok or other provinces after their New Year holidays, with several people carrying rice and local food back with them. Expecting that some 20,000 passengers were leaving Chiang Rai on January 2 alone, the provincial transport authorities have prepared 50 extra bus trips to sufficiently serve the travelers.
In Songkhla province in the Thai South, the Hat Yai Train Station have also been crowded with New Year celebrants who were returning back to work, especially on short routes back to far southern border provinces. There have been no reportedly stranded passengers at all southern train stations. (TNA)
