Iran 1st VP: Mutual Trust Vital To Maintain Regional Security

Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan Prov, March 6, IRNA – Iran's 1st Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi said here Tuesday that regional countries should provide their own security based on mutual trust, common interests and cooperation.
Rahimi made the remarks in the opening ceremony of the 21st International Conference on the Persian Gulf in southern province of Hormuzgan attended by a group of domestic and foreign scholars.
He said the Persian Gulf security cannot be provided by military forces.
Citing security as a pivotal issue in the Persian Gulf, Rahimi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that having collective cooperation and devising a new and effective structure are vital to establishment of regional security.
The three-day conference will focus on the geopolitical development in the World of Islam and in the Persian Gulf region.
Guests from 22 states including Iraq, Japan, Ukraine, Russia, Singapore and India are participating in the Persian Gulf conference./end
