Ambon Branch Of Garuda To Operate Cargo Service Center In May

Ambon, Maluku, March 28 (Antara) - The Ambon branch of Garuda Indonesia, the nation`s flag carrier, will start operating cargo service center in Maluku in May. "The service center of Garuda will facilitate shipments of cargoes without going to the airport," the general manager of Garuda Indonesia for Ambon branch Sonny Pongoh said here on Thursday. Sonny said the cargo service center in the city of Ambon will be operated in cooperation with state owned post office operator PT Pos Indonesia of Ambon branch. "Growing cargo transport to and from Maluku has prompted us to establish the cargo service center to facilitate cargo shipments," he said. He said the cooperation with PT Pos Indonesia is an implementation of the policy of the head office to send cargoes directly to addresses given by the customers. So far cargo transport is served only from airport to airport, but now in cooperation with PT Pos cargoes would be sent to the address given by the customers, he said He said Garuda has provided domestic and international cargo transport service at the Pattimura airport of Ambon since 2010. "Every week we could carry up to 20 tons of cargoes to other areas or countries such as Hong Kong and Japan," he added.
