Foreign Ministry: Georgia to set off international law against Russia’s attempt to achieve recognition of breakaway regions

Georgia, Tbilisi, August 26 /Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/
Georgian authorities have no illusions about that Russia will slow down its activities aimed at recognition of breakaway regions, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani told journalists.
He commented on the statement made by the leader of the separatist regime Tskhinvali Leonid Tibilov about that active work is carried out on continuing the recognition of the occupied region by the world countries. Meanwhile, the Deputy Foreign Minster noted that possibly, one of these countries will be Belarus.
"All this time, Russia quite actively attempted and continues its attempts to achieve the support of various countries. We have no illusions that Russian Federation will slow down its attempts in this direction, but we will set off the international law and the support we have in the international arena against it," Zalkaliani stated.
On August 26, Abkhazia and South Ossetia celebrate the day of recognition of their independence by Russia.
Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
