SKK-Migas Ready To Implement Govt Decision On Kampar Block

Jakarta, Nov 29 (Antara) - The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulator (SKK-Migas) is ready to implement the government`s decision on the work contract of the Kampar Block in Riau Province which has been returned by Operator PT Medco E&P Indonesia. Section Head of SKK-Migas Elan Biantoro said in a press statement made available to Antara here on Friday that the Kampar work contract area had become an open area as of November 28, 2013. For this purpose, Medco has been assigned as a temporary operator of the area for a period of six months or until the assignment of a new and definitive operator of the oil field. The policy is taken as part of the effort to ensure that the production in the work contract area would not be disrupted. "While waiting for a new operator, Medco will remain to organize activities in oil field in coordination with and responsible to the SKK-Migas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)," he said. Elan Biantoro said SKK-Migas was ready to carry out the policy of Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik who decided not to extend the contract of the Siak oil work contract area with Chevron Siak Inc which had expired on November 27, 2013. "State-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina will then be assigned as the operator of the Siak oil field after the end of the contract," he said. In an effort to ensure the continuation of the operation, production and preparation of the signing of a new contract between SKK-Migas and Pertamina, Chevron is assigned to manage the Siak oil contract area for a period of six months or up to the new contract was signed. Regarding the rights and responsibilities of Chevron, they will refer to the previous contract. During the period of temporary operation, Pertamina and Chevron must settle matters relating to the transfer of data, assets, human resources and others. "SKK-Migas is ready to carry out the two government`s decisions. All related parties will soon be in coordination to ensure that production would not be disturbed," Elan Biantoro.
