WB:Thailand would become high income nation by 2040
BANGKOK, August 25 (TNA) - The World Bank has assessed that Thailand would become a high income nation by 2040, urging the government to speed up generating the national economic growth.
Noting that a high income nation needs to sustain national economic growth of 3.5 per cent annually on average, Kiatipong Ariyapruchya, a senior country economist of the World Bank for Thailand, told journalists on Friday that Thailand would take about 23 years, from 2017, to become a high income nation.
Kiatipong suggested that the Thai government speed up propelling the national economic growth by moving forward its mega-investment plans on new infrastructure projects, as well as the development of quality of national education and the domestic service sector to attract more international investment projects.
The senior economist also suggested that Thailand should, most importantly, steadily carry out its new 20-year national development strategy. (TNA)
