Vietnam shines at Quang Ninh int'l grandmaster tournament

Quang Ninh, June 13 (VNA) – Vietnamese chess players excelled at the second Quang Ninh GM/IM/FM Chess Tournament 2025, which closed in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province on June 12.

The week-long tournament attracted nearly 100 participants from nine countries, including India, Russia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and host Vietnam. Competitors participated in two categories: the professional group (GM, IM) and the advanced amateur group (FM), playing in both standard and blitz chess formats.

In the standard chess event for grandmasters, Vietnamese player Banh Gia Huy claimed the championship title in Group 1, with Indonesia's Priasmoro Novendra taking silver and India’s Kushagra Mohan securing bronze. In Group 2, the champion was Laohawirapap Prin of Thailand, while Mohammad Fahad Rahman from Bangladesh won silver and Gomez John Paul from the Philippines took bronze.

In the international master's standard chess event, Arca Christian Gian Karlo from the Philippines won gold, followed by Firman Syah Farid from Indonesia with silver, and Jett Jain from India with bronze.

The blitz chess event saw Quizon Daniel from the Philippines win gold in the men's category, while Vietnamese player Vu Nguyen Bao Linh took the top position in the women's category.

In the advanced amateur category, Tran Ngoc Lan and Vu My Linh of Vietnam triumphed in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. Additionally, Vietnamese players Le Nguyen Phong and Luu Minh Minh won championships in the U10 and U8 age groups in the blitz chess event./.
