Social Development Minister participates in Arab League Social Affairs event in New York

New York, June 13 (BNA): Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development and Chair of the 44th Session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, delivered an opening address at a high-level side event hosted by the Social Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States on the sidelines of the 18th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP18).

The discussions focused on advancing social development policies aimed at supporting and empowering persons with disabilities, particularly in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovative financing.

Minister Al Alawi also held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women. The meeting explored opportunities for joint cooperation and supportive initiatives in light of Bahrain’s presidency of the 44th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.

The minister also met with Dr. Ádám Kósa, Minister of State for Disability Policy at the Ministry of Interior of Hungary. The two sides exchanged experiences and best practices related to policies that promote the rights of persons with disabilities, and discussed avenues for bilateral cooperation to enhance social inclusion through knowledge sharing and capacity building.
