Bahraini Ambassador to Türkiye attends 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Aug. 7 (BNA): Bassam Ahmed Marzooq, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Republic of Türkiye, delivered Bahrain's speech at the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The conference taking place from August 5-8 in the Awaza coastal area of Turkmenistan.

The Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034, adopted by the UN General Assembly last December, is the main focus of the conference.

The programme covers five priority areas: structural transformation, infrastructure and connectivity, trade facilitation, regional integration, and building resilience. These areas are supported by five key initiatives: establishing a global infrastructure investment facility to close funding gaps; creating regional agricultural research centres to boost food security; setting up a high-level UN committee on freedom of transit to ensure smoother border flows; launching digital connectivity initiatives to reduce the digital divide; and developing a dedicated trade programme for landlocked developing countries within the World Trade Organisation.
