BSA participates in International Symposium on Ground Infrastructure for Satellite Systems

Manama, Aug. 19 (BNA): Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), participated in the international symposium "International Symposium on the Development of Ground Infrastructure to Support the Technological Revolution in Satellite Systems", which discussed the development of ground infrastructure to support the technological revolution in satellite systems, as part of efforts by states to build integrated space systems within future infrastructure frameworks.

Dr. Al Aseeri emphasised that the symposium addressed several key aspects, most notably the importance of modernising ground networks through the design of advanced ground stations capable of meeting the requirements of low-Earth orbit satellites; introducing regulatory solutions by updating legislative frameworks for ground station licensing to keep pace with technological developments; ensuring effective spectrum management with innovative approaches to avoid interference amid increasing congestion in low-Earth orbit; and, finally, adopting integration between space and ground systems to secure continuous connectivity for the delivery of modern services in telecommunications, the Internet of Things, and environmental monitoring.

He added that the agency’s participation aimed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the strategic importance of developing ground stations as part of the national infrastructure, applying best practices in licensing ground networks at the local level to support integration with the space sector, and ensuring that national systems are aligned with international standards. He noted that this would pave the way for international cooperation in this vital field, attracting satellite operators and leading industry players to the Kingdom, positioning it as a regional hub for satellite communications networks.

Al Aseeri highlighted that ground networks are the backbone of the new satellite era, and that Bahrain’s participation reflects its aspiration to build a fully integrated system from space to ground, supporting the Kingdom’s transformation into a regional hub for smart satellite communications in a way that strengthens the national economy and creates further investment and employment opportunities.
