Al-Maliki Affirms Iraq’s Balanced Policy in Regional Relations

Baghdad / NINA /- Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, affirmed on Monday that Iraq is pursuing a balanced policy in its relations with all countries in the region, in a manner that safeguards its national interests and stability.

In a statement, al-Maliki’s media office said that he received former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Victoria Taylor, at his office, where they discussed recent regional developments and their repercussions on Iraq.

Al-Maliki noted that Iraqi–U.S. relations are based on solid foundations, pointing out that both countries have signed the Strategic Framework Agreement aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation and supporting efforts to build Iraq’s capacities across various sectors. He called for activating the agreement in the near future.

He also expressed Iraq’s readiness to protect its relations and interests with the United States, explaining that enhancing bilateral ties comes through sustaining economic partnerships that serve the interests of both friendly nations.

Al-Maliki further emphasized that Iraq follows a balanced approach in its relations with all regional states, adding that ongoing dialogues among national political forces seek to complete the constitutional requirements of the next phase and form a government capable of meeting the aspirations of the Iraqi people.

For her part, Taylor underscored the importance of Iraq’s pivotal role in the region, affirming that the country remains a key player in efforts to restore stability and strengthen regional security./ End
