Misconduct will be dealt with seriously: Army Chief
New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) Promising action in Sukna land
scam in Darjeeling, Indian Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor
Thursday said justice would not be swayed by media pressure or
personal bias and any aberration or misconduct would be dealt
with seriously.
Making it clear that he was conscious of the Army's
image and the hurt "individual aberrations" cause to it, he
said, however, that "due action" will be taken under Army Act
and justice would be delivered without being "swayed by
external considerations" like personal biases" or "media
pressure".
Addressing the annual press conference where he faced a
volley of questions on the land scam case, Kapoor said the
"image of the army has to be maintained. Any aberration or
misconduct will be dealt with seriously depending on merits of
the case."
The case involving grant of No Objection Certificate by
the army for sale a plot of land adjacent to Sukna army base
in West Bengal has four generals--Military Secretary Lt Gen
Avadhesh Prakash, Lt Gen P K Rath, 11 Corps Commander Lt
Gen Ramesh Halgali and Maj Gen P C Sen--in the dock.
The Court of Inquiry has recommended action against all
the four officers and the ball is in the court of the Army
Chief.
"We will take due action as per the rules in the Army
Act," Kapoor said, referring to the subject suo motu in his
opening remarks as he apparently expected questions on the
issue. PTI
