Krishna to visit Nepal tomorrow
New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) Reaching out to Nepal, India will
construct a Rs 680-crore road and undertake some other
developmental projects there, agreements for which will be
signed during the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister S
M Krishna beginning Friday.
Krishna will undertake a three-day visit, which assumes
significance as it comes in the midst of the renewed political
turmoil in Nepal.
During his first visit as External Affairs Minister,
Krishna will meet President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister
Madhav Kumar Nepal and hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister
and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala.
The status of Nepal's peace process besides bilateral
relations and ways to enhance these will be discussed.
"The visit is in consonance with the ongoing high-level
bilateral interaction between the two countries," the External
Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
During the trip, the two sides will sign five pacts,
including one for construction of a road in Terai. The road,
that will provide better connectivity with India, will be
built at a cost of Rs 680 crore, sources said.
Another pact will be in the power sector and entails
electrification of five villages in Nepal, they said.
MoUs will also be signed for establishment of a
Scientific and Research Centre in Nepal, providing Central
Depository System facility for Nepal Stock Exchange and
establishment of Nepal Police Academy. PTI AKK
