DALAI 2 LAST

Describing India as the land of the Buddha, the Nobel
Laureate said he did not want to enter into controversies
over the birth place of Lord Buddha.

While the Nepalese claim that Buddha was born in their
country, some people in Orissa also make a similar claim. "I
am not a historian," he said, adding great Buddhist masters
hailed from this country.
Asking his followers to end the controversy over the
birth place of the Lord, the Dalai Lama said knowledge was
essential for understanding Buddhisim.
"One should read different texts on Buddhism to
understand it," he said.
Dalai Lama also refused to accept that he was heading
the 'Tantrayana' sect of Buddhism.
Buddhism was based on the three factors of science,
philosophy and religion, he said, adding many scientists from
across the world had shown interest in Buddhist science.
"The science within Buddhism should be explored as it
is very relevant for present day scientists", he said.
However, the Dalai Lama said non-violence, peace of
mind and religious harmony were the essence of Buddhism. PTI
