Need more homework to convince India to sign LSA pact: US
New Delhi, Jan 20 (PTI) With India showing reluctance to
sign three key defence pacts, including the Logistics Support
Agreement for cashless supplies to each other's armed forces,
the US Wednesday said it needed to do more homework on
convincing the country about their benefits.
US Defence Secretary Robert Gates said the LSA as also
the Communications Inter-operability and Security Memorandum
of Agreements (CISMOA) and Geo-Spatial Agreements would be
beneficial for India.
"We (the US) have not done an adequate job on the
American side with some of the Indian partners on the benefits
if India signs it...We would do a better job by putting on
paper concrete examples of all the three agreements'
benefits," he told a press conference here.
He discussed these issues with Indian Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister A K Antony since Tuesday.
The US has been pushing a reluctant India to sign a
Logistics Support Agreement (LSA) that would enable cashless
supplies to each other's armed forces, though it has shown
inclination in going ahead with Communications Inter-
operability and Security Memorandum of Agreements (CISMOA) for
easier interface and geo-spatial cooperation pact for
facilitating aircraft navigation. MORE PTI NCB
