Another agreement had to do with "basic exchange
cooperation in the geospatial areas" to provide aircraft India
bought with highest navigation capability technology possible.

"So these agreements are in India's benefits because they
give hi-tech systems and additional hi-tech capabilities are
enablers if they chose the high quality equipment for the
Indian armed forces," Gates said.
The LSA, which was the third agreement he discussed with
the Indian Prime Minister, he said the three agreements were
"enablers to allow for defence trade and defence cooperation
and relationship".
"It enables greater inter-operability, greater capability
for our forces to work together in providing Indian Ocean
security... in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief
activity or any number of military operations. It will provide
additional technology," he said.
On his discussion with the Indian leaders about China,
Gates said the talks were in "generic terms" about issues of
mutual interest, security in the Indian Ocean and the security
in "air, sea, space, internet and ether."
He said the two sides also discussed China's military
modernisation programme, what it meant and what were the
intentions of that military build-up.
"I cannot talk about the desire on the Indian side, but I
have to talk about the desire on our side to engage China in
more routine and in-depth dialogue about strategic issues."
Referring to his own role in engaging the former Soviet
Union on nuclear arms reduction, he said though it had not
contributed to reducing the number of nuclear arsenal on both
sides, it did help in greater understanding. "I think such a
dialogue with China will be more productive," he said. PTI NCB
