At the Denmark capital, India along with BASIC nations
had separately voluntarily announced their commitment to cut
energy emissions depending on their capability.

China has pledged to cut its carbon intensity by 40 to 45
per cent by 2020, India too has said it will cut its carbon
intensity by 20 to 25 per cent by the same time.
Similarly, Brazil and South Africa have announced cut in
emissions by 36 per cent and 34 per cent respectively on
business-as-usual levels by 2020.
Now these nations have been asked by the UN to declare
their cuts under the Copenhagen Accord which if accepted by
all will be converted into a legally binding treaty at a
meeting in Mexico later this year. PTI AJ
