Attacks:'India-Australia cordial relations might be affected'
Kochi, Jan 21 (PTI) The Indian Government Thursday said
the cordial relations between India and Australia might be
affected if the attacks on Indians continued in that country.
"If such attacks on Indians continue, the cordial
relations between the two countries might be affected," Indian
Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said here.
Ravi said he also endorsed the views of Indian External
Affairs Minister S M Krishna, who had stated in Delhi
Wednesday that the attacks on Indians in Australia do not
"augur well" for bilateral ties.
India had requested Australia to ensure safety of its
citizens, he said, adding "there has been a 20 to 25 per cent
fall in visa applicants to Australia."
He also claimed there was a steep fall in number of NRIs
returning from Gulf countries due to the economic slowdown.
