US drones to Pak, India sensitises Washington over misuse

Bangalore/New Delhi, Jan 22 (PTI) With US planning to
supply Drones to Pakistan, India on Friday said it has
sensitised Washington about its concerns over the misuse of
assistance to Islamabad but said it has "no problems" as long
as these unmanned aerial vehicles are used against Taliban.

"So long as they are for (the fight against) Taliban,
we have no problems", IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik
told reporters in Bangalore when they sought his reaction to
reports that the US was planning to supply Pakistan with 12
unarmed Shadow drones. These UAVs would significantly enhance
Pakistan's surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.
However, Naik remained non-committal on the possibility
of Islamabad sharing the predatory technology with China.
Asked about the reports, sources in New Delhi said India
has been from time-to-time "sensitising" the US about its
concerns of misuse of the assistance provided to Pakistan.
"We don't have any difficulty over the economic
assistance or any type of assistance provided to Pakistan, as
long as it is not used against India," sources said.
The decision to supply 12 RQ-7 Shadow Unmanned Aerial
Vehicles (UAV's) to Pakistan was announced by visiting US
Defence Secretary Robert Gates during an interaction with the
local media in Pakistan.
Sources refused to comment whether these issues figured
during meetings Gates had with Indian leadership during his
India trip. PTI RS
