Indian man dies after drowning in pool
Chicago, Jan 23 (PTI) A 25-year-old Indian, who was
visiting the city on a business trip, died after drowning in a
swimming pool at an apartment complex here, police said.
Ashish Kumar, who was staying at an apartment in the
Northwest side, was found at the bottom of the complex's
indoor pool Friday evening.
He was pronounced dead at Resurrection Medical Centre,
a spokesman for Cook County medical examiner's office said.
Surveillance video footage in the pool area showed a
man walking out of the area, leaving Kumar by himself. It then
shows him diving into the about eight-feet deep end of the
pool. Kumar was seen "splashing" and struggling to swim,
panicking and then sinking to the pool's bottom, police said.
Kumar, who was in the city on a business trip, was
alone in the pool area at the time. The man who was there
earlier came back and called someone from the building, who
called 911, they said.
There was no lifeguard on duty, but warning signs were
posted, they said, adding foul play was not suspected and
Grand Central Area detectives were investigating. PTI
