India reduce Bangladesh to 84 for five

Mirpur (Bangladesh), Jan 24 (PTI) Pacers Zaheer Khan and
Ishant Sharma struck early blows as India reduced Bangladesh
to 84 for five at lunch on the opening day of the second and
final cricket Test here on Sunday.
Zaheer and Ishant bowled superb opening spells, grabbing
two wickets apiece, and they were also helped by some
irresponsible batting by the home team's batsmen.
Zaheer's opening six-over spell produced two wickets for
22 runs while Ishant generated pace and bounce to also grab
two wickets for 23 runs from his first spell of seven overs.
At lunch, Shakib Al Hasan (11) and first Test centurion
Mushfiqur Rahim (22) were at the crease and the duo seemed set
for a repair job with a sixth-wicket stand of 33 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan chose to bat
after winning the toss but his decision backfired as the hosts
lost three wickets for 13 runs inside the fifth over.
Their top half was back to the hut inside the first hour
for just 51 runs.
Bangladesh did not make even a semblance of a fight as
all their batsmen looked in a hurry to play shots though
opener Imrul Kayes (0) was a tad unlucky to be given out by
New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden.
Kayes tried to work an Ishant delivery at the leg but
missed it for Mahendra Singh Dhoni to take an easy catch
behind the stumps. But television replays suggested that the
ball had kissed the thigh pads and not the batsman's gloves.
Zaheer, who opened the bowling on Sunday, removed the
Tamim Iqbal eight balls later for a duck. The angling delivery
hit his pads first before crashing into the stumps to leave
Bangladesh at four for two.
Another wicket in the form of Junaid Siddique (8) fell in
Zaheer's next over as the batsman tried to work on the but
only getting a glove to it and Dhoni doing the rest.
At the stroke of first hour, Raqibul Hasan (4) joined the
procession to the pavilion, caught by Dravid at second slip
after sharing a 31-ball stand for the fourth wicket in 7.2
overs with an aggressive-looking Mohammad Ashraful.
Four balls and seven runs later, Ashraful gifted his
wicket when Bangladesh needed a big innings from him, stumped
by Dhoni off Pragyan Ojha. Ashraful, who was struggling for
form, could have stuck to the wicket but he perished
attempting a rash shot.
Ashraful hit Pragyan Ojha's third ball of the day for a
four and next ball he danced down the track for a big hit only
to miss it and Dhoni had all the time the time to clip off the
bails. The former Bangladesh captain scored a strokeful 39 off
31 balls with the help of six fours.
Earlier, India made four changes in the playing XI with
Dhoni and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh returning to the side
after recovering from injuries.
Murali Vijay came in for the injured VVS Laxman while
Pragyan Ojha replaced Amit Mishra who played in the first Test
in Chittagong which India won by 113 runs. Bangladesh made one
change with Junaid Siddique coming in for Shahriar Nafees. PTI
