Russia demands strict action by India for safety of citizens

New Delhi, Jan 27 (PTI) Expressing "outrage" over the
alleged rape of a 9-year-old girl from its country, Russia
Wednesday demanded "strict and efficient" measures immediately
by India to ensure the safety of its citizens, failing which
it will issue advisory to its tourists to refrain from
visiting Goa.

In a strong worded statement, the Russian embassy said:
"We are shocked and deeply outraged by the reports about the
disgusting incident in India’s well-known resort in Goa, when
a 9-year old child from Russia became another victim of a
rapist. The Embassy reiterates its grave concern over the
growth of criminal cases against Russians in Goa."
A nine-year-old Russian girl was alleged raped at Arambol
beach in North Goa Tuesday, according to police.
"Last December a 25-year old Russian woman was criminally
assaulted and raped. Investigation of that case is being
conducted inefficiently. Earlier the police had registered
several other cases of assaults and abuses of Russian tourists
in Goa.
"Increased criminal activities in the state, which has
become popular among Russian tourists, cause damage to its
reputation. We expect that the Indian authorities should
immediately take strict and efficient measures to ensure the
safety of Russian citizens", the Russian embassy said
"Otherwise, we will have no other option but to
recommend Russian tourists to refrain from visiting Goa," it
added. PTI PYK
