UNHCR lauds Fatima humanitarian initiatives
Abu Dhabi, Jan 28, 2010 (WAM)- Regional Representative of UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to the GCC Yaqoub Al-Hillo lauded yesterday humanitarian and noble initiatives launched by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the UAE General Women's Union and Honorary Chairperson of the UAE Red Crescent Authority for improving living conditions of refugees.
The UN official said the fund for welfare of women refugees, a brainchild of Sheikh Fatima, was a creative initiative to deliver better care and life to children and women, victims of natural disasters. He also commended the RCA's humanitarian operations across the world.
The UN official made his remarks during a visit to the RCA premises where he met with RCA Chairman Ahmed Al Mazrouie and discussed with him ways of enhancing joint partnership for taking care of female refugees.
He considered the RCA as a major world donor and supporter of refugees’ issues.
He expressed the UNHCR's sincere desire to scale its partnership with the RCA to new heights for serving refugees.
Al Mazrouie said the RCA carried out humanitarian and relief programmes targeting refugees in tune of Dh437 million from 1994 up to 2009.
He affirmed the RCA was ready to boost its constructive cooperation with the UN refugees’ agency for the benefit of refugees.
