Pak PM`s remarks realistic, says Shah Mehmood Qureshi
New Delhi, Jan 28(PTI) Defending his Prime Minister's
remarks that Pakistan cannot prevent recurrence of 26/11,
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Thursday said
it was a "realistic" statement and not an "irresponsible" one
as there cannot be a foolproof system to stop such incidents.
"No. It was a realistic statement. I don't call it
irresponsible statement....I think what he meant was that as
far as the state is concerned, the government of Pakistan and
institution of Pakistan are concerned, they will do whatever
they can to defeat the designs of such elements because it is
not in our interest.
"We are suffering because of them and we don't want the
image of Pakistan soiled because of some sort of distorted
ideology of theirs. We do not want that...but you cannot have
a foolproof system," Qureshi told NDTV in an interview.
"There are elements in India that you are fighting in the
North, in the East...You have terrorists reaching your Prime
Ministers," he said.
Qureshi also said the information shared by India on Hafiz
Saeed, the alleged mastermind behind the Mumbai terror
attacks, was not "legally tenable".
He ruled out a bilateral meeting with Indian External
Affairs Minister S M Krishna on the sidelines of a conference
in London. "We are too shy. The Indians have become shy. They
have gone into a shell....there is a lack of clarity on your
side. I think there is lack of political consensus within
India" whether to engage with Pakistan or not.
Both leaders are currently in London to attend a
conference on Afghanistan. PTI
