AUS-RACIAL 2LAST

Rudd said his choice of Klu Klux Klan mask was
inspired from a cartoon in an Indian newspaper.

"It was already in the public domain and I wanted to
use it to drive the point home. I share the cartoonist's view
that this was the most effective way of highlighting the fact
that Indian students here are subject to racially-motivated
attacks," he said.
The Australian Prime Minister did not want to club the
attacks as racial. He said the attacks were regrettable but
should be seen in the context of broader incidences of
violence against locals and students of other ethnic groups.
