India, Russia to discuss intel sharing, regional stability
New Delhi, Jan 31 (PTI) Enhancing intelligence-sharing
mechanism, counter-terrorism, regional peace and stability
will be among a host of issues to be discussed when Russia's
Security Council Secretary meets Indian National Security
Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon during a two-day visit starting
Monday.
Nikolay Patrushev is coming here on a working visit on
February 1-2, which envisages a new round of consultations
between the Security Councils of the two countries, a Russian
embassy statement said here Sunday.
"The agenda includes exchange of opinions on such urgent
problems as fight against international terrorism, illegal
production and trafficking of drugs, etc. Tasks and prospects
of interaction between special services in the interests of
ensuring security of our two countries, regional peace and
stability are also a matter of discussion," it said.
Terming these meetings as "one of the important
components of high-level confidential contacts between Russia
and India over the last years", the embassy said Patrushev
will be the first head of a foreign Security Council to hold
discussion with his new Indian counterpart Menon, who was
appointed a week ago.
Negotiations are expected to focus on topical issues of
regional and international security as well as development of
multifaceted Indo-Russian cooperation in bilateral and
multilateral formats. PTI PYK
