Maoists groups issue threats to Chidambaram
New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) Central security agencies have
been informed about a threat issued by Left wing extremists to
Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram, who is reluctant to take
personal security.
Banned CPI (Maoists) have been circulating pamphlets
threatening to carry out attacks against Chidambaram if he did
not stop operations against Naxals in various parts of the
country, sources in the state government said.
Chidambaram, who himself turned down the recommendations
of the agencies for a security cover for himself, has been
tough on tackling the Maoist problem across the country.
He has ensured adeuqate security forces drawn from
paramilitary forces like the Central Reserve Police Force,
Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal and Indo Tibetan
Border Police and worked out a plan for effective coordination
with the state police.
Chidambaram has taken the state governments on board to
ensure a coordinated approach against naxal groups.
The Communist Party of India-Maoists have now been
claiming that they would take "revenge" for this, the sources
said. PTI SKL
