Sheikh Abdullah holds talks with Queensland Premier
Queensland - Feb 3, 2010 (WAM)- HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs held talks with Anna Bligh, Queensland's Premier, focusing on bilateral relations and means of enhancing them.
During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah referred to the strength and depth of economic cooperation and trade exchanges between the two countries as Australia, is also an important trade partner of UAE. He also referred to the importance of mutual visits between the two sides.
For her part, Queensland Premier praised the comprehensive cultural renaissance witnessed by UAE and hailed the keenness of UAE leadership for the women development programs.
She also commended the role and efforts of HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU) of UAE and Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), in supporting the issues of UAE women empowerment and also her role in preserving the national heritage and traditions.
On the other hand, the report issued on the occasion of UAE Foreign Minister's visit to Australia referred to the strong bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Australia in various fields.
Later, Sheikh Abdullah and his host attended a forum of Emirati-Australian businessmen which explored prospects of joint cooperation in trade, investment and mechanisms of increasing trade exchange.
Ways of enabling Australian firms to tap opportunities generated by staggering economic and urban development in the UAE were also discussed.
In his address to the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah called on the Australian firms to benefit from the UAE competitive edge in areas of trade, investment and tourism.
Sheikh Abdullah also stressed the importance of sharing experience and knowledge between universities in the UAE and Australia to boost educational and health capacities in both countries. He invited businessmen in Queensland to invest in the UAE especially in the real estate and industrial sectors and other booming sectors.
