RCA intensifies relief efforts in Haiti
Santo Domingo, (Dominican Republic) - Feb 3, 2010 (WAM)- The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has intensified its relief operations in Haiti upon the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of RCA.
The RCA field mission headed by Dr. Saleh Al Tai, Deputy Secretary-General for Relief and projects held a meeting with Dominican Republic and Haiti officials and discussed requirements for the next phase of support and assistance to the victims, and assured to continuing and intensifying rescue efforts besides strengthening cooperation between them.
Al Tai pointed out that the RCA, during the next couple of days, will inaugurate the UAE Field Hospital that has been prepared to offer medical treatments and surgeries, whereas the hospital includes various medical specialties, including orthopaedic surgery and fractures, emergency medicine as well as special sections for children and women in addition to modern laboratory and a pharmacy.
He said that the hospital's medical team, which offered voluntary services include doctors, nurses, radiology and laboratory technicians and have started arriving to the capital, Santo Domingo from UAE, France, USA, Egypt and other countries. It should be mentioned that the UAE field mission has so far delivered hundreds of tons of aid by air or land routes through the neighbouring Dominican, to meet the needs of Haiti earthquake victims.
