Ravi airlifted to Cote d'Ivoire, condition stable
Abuja, Feb 5 (PTI) Overseas Indian Affairs Minister
Vayalar Ravi, who was injured in a car accident in Liberia,
was Friday airlifted to Cote d'Ivoire for further treatment
and is out of danger.
Liberain media reported that Ravi was unconscious soon
after the accident, but his condition improved later.
An official at the Indian embassy in Cote d'Ivoire
told PTI that the minister is undergoing treatment at the
Pisan Hospital in Abidjan. The official, who spoke on
condition of anonymity, said Ravi is out of danger.
Besides Ravi, Shamma Jain, Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire
with concurrent accreditation to Liberia, has also been
evacuated to Cote d'Ivoire and his condition is said to be
stable.
Ravi was airlifted to Cote d'Ivoire after doctors
recommended that he needed some specialised treatment.
Before they were airlifted to the African country,
Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visited them at the
hospital and enquired about their health condition.
A speeding taxi rammed into Ravi's car in Monrovia,
the capital city of Liberia Thursday while he was heading to
board a flight to Nigeria.
Ravi is on a nine day tour of African countries
namely, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia and Nigeria from
January 29 to February 6, 2010. PTI CORR
