Hindus in Balochistan ask govt to curb robbery, abduction cases
Islamabad, Feb 10 (PTI) The minority Hindu community in
Pakistan's Balochistan province has appealed to the government
to curb rising cases of abduction and robbery being
perpetrated against its members, who are also facing "social
and religious discrimination".
The deteriorating law and order situation had heightened
the community's vulnerability, Quetta Hindu Panchayat leader
Shyam Kumar told a news conference in Balochistan's capital
city yesterday along with provincial Minorities Minister
Basant Lal Gulshan.
The shop of a Hindu trader was recently looted and three
Hindu businessmen were abducted for ransom last month, Kumar
said.
Hindus are a peace-loving community and are as patriotic
as any other community, he said.
The community faced "social and religious discrimination"
despite rendering numerous sacrifices for Pakistan and playing
its due role in the country's economic development, Kumar
said. PTI RHL
