Rupee hits one-week low of 46.32/33
Mumbai, Feb 24 (PTI) The Indian rupee Wednesday lost 8
paise to close at more than one week low of 46.32/33 against
the US currency on dollar buying by importers amid erratic
movements in stock markets.
Forex dealers said the drop in the rupee value was mainly
due to dollar buying by importers, mainly oil refiners, to
meet their month-end needs.
Trading in a narrow range, the rupee opened lower at the
Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market at 46.35/36 a dollar
before concluding the day at 46.32/33, a fall of 8 paise.
The Indian benchmark sensex Wednesday ended lower by
30.35 points or 0.19 per cent in lacklustre trading. Barring
China, which ended in the green other Asian markets too closed
with losses following overnight fall on Wall Street.
In London, dollar was up against a basket currencies
following weak US consumer confidence data and investors
support for testimony from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben
Bernanke.
However, in the Asian market, the US dollar retreated
early Wdenesday after touching an eight-month high in
North-American trading. MORE PTI
