Rupee ends steady at 45.81/82; pares initial gains

Mumbai, Mar 4 (PTI) Retreating from its six-week highs,
the Indian rupee Thursday held steady at 45.81/82 per dollar
on demand from importers and banks following recovery in the
American currency in overseas market.
The rupee resumed strong at 45.76/77 per dollar against
the Wednesday's close on persistent selling of the greenback
by exporters only to pare gains to close at 45.81/82 on fresh
demand due to firm dollar in overseas market.
The dollar gained around 0.25 per cent against a basket
of currencies while the euro slipped before a European Central
Bank meeting.
Meanwhile, oil slid toward USD 80 Thursday in the London
Market as the dollar strengthened, dragging fuel prices off
seven-week highs after news of another build in U.S. crude
inventories.
The Indian benchmarch sensex also failed to maintain its
last 3-day winning spree by falling 28.31 points or 0.17 per
cent. (MORE) PTI RSU
