Natasha Chaku
Melbourne, Mar 9 (PTI) An Australian court here on
Tuesday adjourned till June 29 the hearing of the case of
Gursewak Dhillon, accused in the death of toddler Gurshan
Singh Channa, with the prosecution seeking extra time to
prepare evidence against him.
23-year-old Dhillon, a part-time taxi driver, did not
apply for bail on a charge of manslaughter by criminal
negligence.
Dhillon, wearing a white polo shirt, sat quietly in
the prisoners dock during the brief appearance at the
Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
He nodded when asked by Magistrate Jelena Popovic if
he understood the case was being adjourned and that he could
apply for bail at any time, local media reports said.
The hearing lasted less than a minute and was
adjourned until June 29 with the prosecution asking extra time
to prepare the brief of evidence against Dhillon.
Dhillon has been accused of placing the unconscious
child in the boot of his car and driving around for three
hours before disposing off the body in a field five days ago.
Meanwhile, police has said it wants to speak to a
woman who helped Dhillon when his car broke down on last
Thursday when the crime was committed. MORE PTI NC
