China to work with India in future negotiations on Climate

K J M Varma
Beijing, Mar 10 (PTI) China on Wednesday said it would
work closely with India in future negotiations on Climate
Change and is keen to step up cooperation with New Delhi in
areas of forestry, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The two countries had yesterday formally backed the
Climate Change Accord hammered out in Copenhagen last year
calling for voluntary cut in greenhouse gas emissions.
"In future negotiations and cooperation on climate
change, we will continue to be good partners. The government
of India and China have signed an MOU enhancing our climate
partnership," Xie Zhenhua, top Chinese Climate negotiator,
told a news conference here.
He said the two countries have conducted policy
dialogue and consultations very frequently between China and
India.
"We are willing to step up cooperation in the areas of
forestry, energy efficiency and renewable energy (with
India)," he said in reply to a question.
He said China and India would continue their
cooperation at the negotiations being held by ad-hoc groups to
reach a deal at the next climate conference to be held in
Mexico.
India, China, Brazil and South Africa brokered a deal
at the Copenhagen Climate Summit that calls for limiting
warming to two degree Celsius and commits rich countries to
provide USD 100 billion to developing countries besides USD 30
billion to the poorest and most vulnerable countries in the
next three years to fight climate change. PTI KJV
