Islamic parliamentary union chief condemns sanctions on Iran
TEHRAN, June 14 (MNA) -- Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) Secretary General Mahmud Urul Gilich has issued a statement condemning imposition of new sanctions on Iran.
Last Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council voted 12-2 in favor of a resolution imposing new sanctions on Iran. Brazil and Turkey voted “no” and Lebanon abstained.
In his statement, Mahmud Urul Gilich said the recent move of the Security Council was politically motivated intended to hamper Iran’s efforts in pursuing its legitimate nuclear rights.
He also said that the IIPU is strongly opposed to the Security Council resolution.
IIPU is an affiliate of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).
