Sheikha Lubna honoured at US-UAE Business Council, delivers keynote speech on women empowerment

Washington DC - Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates was honoured during a luncheon hosted by the US-UAE Business Council.
Speaking to business and community leaders, she reinforced the importance of the United States for the UAE's commercial and economic strategies, "we are here today to further formulate new partnerships between our two countries. We invite the US to further expand its exploration into the dynamic UAE market and to tap into opportunities offered by the various sectors of the UAE economy".
The UAE is the US's largest overseas market with US$12.1 Billion goods exported to the UAE in 2009 alone. She continued trade and commerce meetings with the Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, Dr. Christina Romer.
Sheikha Lubna’s day of events concluded with a meeting at the UAE Embassy in Washington DC with the board of "Vital Voices" discussing women's empowerment. The meeting was attended by Mrs. Fatma Ganim Al Marri member of the UAE Federal National Council.
Following the meeting, she gave the keynote address and answered questions at a reception co-organised with the UAE Embassy and Vital Voices. Remarking on the role women have played in UAE's rapid development, she said, "Perhaps the UAE's achievement is best demonstrated in the evolution and growth of Emirati women as partners and contributors in this remarkable nation-building process. Women in the UAE today are at the forefront of the workforce in both the government and private sector". Ambassador Al Otaiba quantified those remarks at the podium following Sheikha Lubna by stating, "According to a recent study by the Centre for Work-Life Policy in New York, 92 per cent of UAE young women aspire to hold a top job. I am happy to report that in the UAE, we have been able to take advantage of that ambition. We have four female cabinet ministers. Almost a quarter of our legislative body, the Federal National Council, is composed of female delegates. And we have women serving as fighter pilots, in the police force, and as CEO's and senior managers of leading companies".
Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi will continue her trip in the United States meeting with government, business and community leaders across the country. Her visit will focus on US-UAE trade and commercial relations. She will be travelling with her delegation to Texas and Washington State as part of her week long itinerary. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
