Mottaki discusses issues of mutual interest with Cypriot counterpart
Tehran, July 30, IRNA - Cyprus visiting Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou discussed issues of mutual interest with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of Foreign Ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member countries here.
According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department on Monday, Kyprianou by expressing pleasure over being in Iran and attending the meeting presented a report on Cyprus situation andefforts to unify the island.
As a member of European Union, Cyprus foreign minister said, " The EU intends to find a moderate solution for Iran's nuclear dossier." Considering Iran's ties with Turkey, Kyprianou asked Iran to helpsolve the dispute between Cyprus and Turkey.
Concerning old ties between Iran and Europe, Mottaki said " There are plenty of reasons for expansion and deepening ties between Iran and Cyprus." He supported the idea of solving problems in the Cyprus island in the framework of international regulations and expressed hope thatdisputes can be solved in favor of both sides.
Iran's senior diplomat called unfair relations in the international ties as "unsustainable" and added "Already such pressures were imposed on the weak countries, but situation in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine show that such approaches cannot work anymore." He continued commonalities between Iran and Europe proposed packagescan be a bridge for access to a more comprehensive agreement.
Mottaki said fight against terrorism, protection of environment, democracy and human rights are among cooperation fields between Iranand Europe.
